Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory

Students perform at 7 exercises that illustrate the properties of radionuclides and their applications.

The list of exercises includes: attenuation of the beta radiation; effect of the H/D isotope substitution on the physicochemical properties of the substances; isotope exchange of hydrogen; kinetics of the isotope exchange of iodine-131; study of the structure of thiosulphate using S-35; natural radioactivity, the use of gamma radiation spectrometry in neutron activation analysis,

The student knows and understands:

K_W03: Knows the basics of nuclear chemistry and understands the importance of radioactivity in science, technology, and medicine.

K_W08: Possesses advanced knowledge and skills in computational methods appropriate for a given chemical specialization.

K_W10: Has a good understanding of current developments in chemistry and the latest scientific discoveries in a given chemical specialization.

K_U02: Is able to analyze problems in nuclear chemistry and is able to assess its significance and threats to society.

K_U08: Possesses advanced knowledge and skills enabling the use of professional literature, databases, and other sources of information, and is able to assess the reliability of obtained information.

Each exercise is evaluated on the basis of pre-test (max.5 points) and the description (max. 5 points). The grade for the exercise will be a weighted average, assuming that 60% of points are from the test and 40% from the description. The final grade for the semester will be the average of the grades from 7 exercises.

The attendance will be checked during classes.

Student can be absent only once. It is required to work out an abandoned exercise.

Does not concern
