Skrócony opis: |
(tylko po angielsku) Different integral transformations and their properties will be considered. Applications include solving (ordinary and partial) differential and difference equations. |
Pełny opis: |
(tylko po angielsku) Integral transforms date back to the works of Euler who used them to solve linear ordinary differential equations. Since then many integral transformations have been studied and extended to complex variables and to many variables. There are many transformations in mathematics and in particular in the theory of special function: Laplace, Borel, Mellin, Fourier transforms. For instance, the Laplace transform is a wonderful tool for solving ordinary and partial differential equations by reducing them to certain algebraic equations. Integral transforms have a lot of applications in mathematical physics and engineering, e.g., image processing. Detailed course description: 1) Recap on complex variable theory 2) The Laplace transform: basic properties, convergence, inverse transform, translation theorems, differentiation and integration, convolution 3) Applications of the Laplace transform: Gamma function, periodic functions 4) ODEs, PDEs, difference equations and Laplace transform 5) Basic theory of other transformations, their properties and applications. The course is suitable for undergraduate students. Prerequisites: ODEs, analysis; desirable: complex analysis. |
