Założenia (opisowo):

Students acquires skills in the fields of:

a) Planning and conducting scientific research in the field of organic/inorganic nanomaterials

b) Construction (main parts) of a scientific publication/report

c) Current trends in organic/inorganic nanomaterials development

Skrócony opis:

Throughout the course student will have the opportunity to read and discuss several scientific works from the field of organic/inorganic nanomaterials. Each week few scientific publications from different research areas of organic/inorganic nanomaterials will be provided to the student for individual reading (6h per week). Then, meetings with experienced researchers will be held to discuss the provided materials (2h per week). These discussions will be first devoted to understanding the construction of a scientific report/publication. Then, several scientific topics will be discussed in detail.

Pełny opis:

Several different topics concerning current trends in organic/inorganic nanomaterials development will be discussed throughout the course of the project based on packages of scientific publications provided to the student. Student will have the opportunity to read the publications individually and then discuss them with researchers working in the field of interest.

The first half of semester will be focused on general knowledge of nanomaterials synthesis and analysis:

1. Construction of a scientific publication/report

2. Synthesis of nanomaterials (metal/semiconductor/oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanomaterials) by wet chemical and physicochemical methods

3. Organic derivatization of nanomaterials (covalent and non-covalent methods)

4. Methods for nanomaterials structure characterization (e.g. electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, x-ray scattering/diffraction, themrogravimetry)

5. Methods for nanomaterials functional characterization (e.g. fluorimetry, UVVis spectroscopy)

6. Preparing thin films of nanomaterials (e.g. blade coating, spin-coating, zone casting)

Finishing the above discussions will be prerequisite for further discussion that will aim at understanding principles of specific research areas:

1. Anisotropic self-assembly of nanoparticles

2. Self-assembly of block copolymers

3. Dynamic (switchable) nanomaterials

4. Helical nanostructures

Efekty uczenia się:

Student can grasp the basic steps of a scientific project from identification of a problem and planning a state-of-the-art materials that will resolve the problem. Student will be able to quickly read and identify most important contribution of a given scientific publication. Student will be able to understand preparation and analysis of organic/inorganic nanomaterials. Student will be able to discuss nanomaterials research from different disciplines.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

The final score will be the mean value of assessment of each meeting. Three absences are allowed
