Skrócony opis: |
The seminar is for students of the third year interested in education and labour market issues. The goal of the seminar is to acknowledge students with the basic issues concerning the relationship of education with labour market, with constitute the subject of scientific research. Besides student will learn about the methodology of conducting empirical research in this area. As a result student should be able to write the bachelor's thesis, which include a simple empirical analysis. The seminar will include among others the following issues: guidelines for bachelor's thesis, the system of education and its outcomes, characteristic of supply and demand for qualifications, the role of qualifications in determining one's situation on the labour market. The seminar comprises lectures and consultations on each stage of writing bachelor's thesis. The final assesment will be based on writing the final version of bachelors' thesis (100%). |

Pełny opis przedmiotu (max 65 tys. znaków) In the first semester there will be regular group meetings according to the following schedule: 1. Introduction 2. Lecture 1: Human capital - what is it, how is it formed, and how can it be measured? 3. Lecture 2: Theoretical background for the impact of human capital on the individuals' position in the labour market 4. Lecture 3: The basic methods of measurement of the impact of investments in competences 5. Examples of empirical research studies 6. Consultation of the proposed topics of bachelor’s thesis 7. Consultation of the goal of the bachelor’s thesis based on a review of literature 8. Consultation of the design of empirical analysis (database, model, variables, estimation method) 9. Consultation of the first estimation results In the second semester there will be individual consultations only. |

The literature depends on the subject of Bachelor’s dissertation. |
Efekty uczenia się: |
After the course a student: 1) is familiar with the basic issues concerning the link of education and labour market, 2) knows the techniques of collecting information and identification of useful literature, 3) is capable of constructing and conducting an empirical research with the use of individual-level database. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The credit will be given on the condition of: 1) 1st semester: preparing the final concept of Bachelor’s dissertation and writing one chapter (50%), 2) 2nd semester: preparing the final version of Bachelor’s dissertation (50%). |
