Pełny opis:

The course is implemented as part of a project co-financed by the European Union with the European Social Fund under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020.

The course is aimed at students who might consider working in an educational sector and applying CLIL to their career.

Introduction - getting to know each other

In the first section of the course participants will learn how to speak about themselves. They will move from general issues to more professional, useful in the recruitment process. They will speak about their motivations for joining the course. They will explain what they would like to learn or achieve. They will watch a video on “Introducing yourself in English” and learn useful vocabulary. Then they will do an exercise in which they will practise the most important expressions. They will also learn to speak about their own professional areas of interest, trying to make it sound interesting and exciting. They will prepare short speeches which they will record and send for evaluation.

Dream jobs

In this section of the course participants will focus on the so called “dream job”.

They will consider some of the following issues: if you could choose any job you like, what would it be? What makes a job attractive? What do you understand by a dream job? They will read about different unusual jobs, and consider their advantages and disadvantages.

They will also consider the role of good education. They will read the advice given by a graduate, discussing the reasons for attending a business school. They will learn how to speak about their educational experience, and do some exercises helping to memorize new words and phrases.

Participants will also learn how to make themselves visible on the Internet in a way that may enhance their employability. They will read and analyse some online professional profiles, trying to note down the expressions that they find useful for themselves. They will be asked to write a draft of their own short profile, using some of the expressions that they have noted down.

After preparing the drafts of professional profiles, participants will be introduced to the idea of “Power verbs” which help to create dynamic collocations used in online professional profiles, in CVs or letters of application. They will practise matching power verbs with nouns, creating typical collocations. They will be asked to look once again at the draft profiles they have written. They will try to make them more dynamic and attractive using some of the collocations based on power verbs. Then they will write down and send for evaluation the final versions of their profiles.

Applying for your dream job

In this section participants will learn how to write their CV and a letter of application for a job. Model documents will be presented. Students will watch a short video with a tutorial. They will focus on how to interestingly present „work experience” section of a CV. Then different models of letters of application will be presented, followed by some practical exercises. Finally, students will have to prepare and send for evaluation their own letter of application for a job in education.

Job interview - oral practice

In this part of the course participants will improve their speaking skills, have a chance to learn what are the most typical, as well as tricky questions asked during job interviews, and present their own answers to them, for example: What is your biggest weakness? What salary do you think you deserve? Why should I hire you? What didn’t you like about your last job? Where do you see yourself in three to five years?

This lesson will take form of a Zoom meeting. The participants will be informed about the date of the meeting during the first weeks of the course.

How to succeed at work

In this section students will learn which factors may contribute to their enhanced performance at work and to what extent those factors depend on their personality including the influence of the environment. The participants will make a recording expressing their ideas, and send it for evaluation. Then they will watch a video recording to compare if any of their ideas have been presented in the video material. The participants will be asked to choose three factors from the recording that they consider most crucial for their success at work and will have to prove their point by recording their views. There will be some vocabulary practice to draw participants’ attention to collocations and phrases worth remembering.

This part of the course will also focus on significant changes on the job market, skills and competences that have recently become more sought after than before.

Career path

This part will focus on the job experience, successes, disappointments and role models. Participants will be required to make a 2 minute recording in which they will talk about their personal development and job experience.

Students will also analyse competences they would like their teachers to have; a video material on teachers’ professional competences will be presented and a discussion on the changing role of a teacher in the 21st century will follow.

Setting objectives and appraisals

In the part on setting objectives and evaluating performance students will learn how to set achievable, short-term and long-term goals and make sure they are SMART. Participants will have a chance to look at some goals set by a professional and evaluate them.

The section also draws students’ attention to the issue of self-awareness and their ability of presenting their competences, achievements and objectives in an appraisal interview.

An example of an appraisal interview will be provided and students will be asked to offer their comments.

All students’ questions will be answered in Zoom meetings which will follow. The meetings will also be devoted to the practical side of the course e.g. practising appraisal interviews, discussing the importance of feedback and ways of offering it.

Grammar review

The course also includes a revision of some aspects of English grammar, which will prove useful in both applying for a job and working in an English-speaking environment

In this section of the course participants will have a chance to revise some grammar issues. Use of tenses, forming questions, passive and active voice and compound sentences will be covered. This revision is aimed at giving future CLIL teachers more confidence and practice in using English. A variety of exercises on a platform will be followed by Zoom meeting, and all participants will have a chance to ask questions and clarify any problems they have with the use of the language.

CLIL-VET

The following part of the course will be devoted to the application of Content and Language Integrated Learning methodology in vocational schools. Participants will be acquainted with the framework of CLIL and principles to follow to successfully apply CLIL in their educational settings.

Students will watch a number of short videos presenting lessons integrating content and language, they will try to work out the idea behind CLIL, before they are given a presentation on the main assumptions of CLIL approach to teaching.

The participants will analyse some materials used in CLIL lessons, make a plan of their own lesson, as well as try to adapt some authentic materials for classroom use. The practical part of the course will be run on Zoom platform.
