ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to present current problems of management and modern management concepts. In particular, issues such as appropriate business location, risk management, managerial errors and crisis management are discussed.

Full description:

The science of management is constantly developing and managers have an increasingly wider choice of theories and specific solutions at their disposal. Theoretical and practical perspectives for the development of the discipline on a macro, meso and micro scale will be presented in sequence.

1. Introduction

2-3-Contemporary management concepts. Macro level - theory and practical implications

- challenges and dilemmas of contemporary management. Analysis of conditions in the areas:

- economic paradigms,

- politics,

- globalization,

- social development,

- technological development,

- demographic trends.

4-6.-Contemporary management concepts. Meso level - theory and practical implications

- factors of economic development of regions,

- spike theory,

- equalization theory,

- metropolisation theory,

- economic boundaries of the metropolis,

- shrinking and spreading growth processes,

- concept of long duration,

- sources and measures of development in historical terms,

- distribution of favorable and unfavorable conditions for organizational activity,

- selection of the organization's location in the light of various theoretical concepts.

7-15. Contemporary management concepts. Micro level – theory and practical implications

In terms of knowledge:

• Knows and understands in-depth research methodology and terminology in the field of management and quality science and in complementary disciplines (economics and finance, legal sciences). (K_W01)

• Knows and understands complex processes and phenomena occurring in various types of organizations and in the world around them, uses management theory to recognize, diagnose and solve contemporary problems related to key functions in the organization (operational, marketing, financial, personnel management) and their integration in within the organization's strategy (K_W02)

• Knows and understands complex technological, social, political, legal, economic and ecological processes and phenomena and their impact on the functioning of the modern organization and the entire economy, including the principles of protection of industrial property and copyright. (K_W05)

In terms of skills:

• Is able to correctly interpret complex technological, social, political, legal, economic and ecological processes and phenomena and their impact on the functioning of the organization and the entire economy, using the appropriate selection of sources. (K_U02)

• Is ready to assess and critically approach complex situations and phenomena related to the functioning of modern organizations, sectors and the entire economy (K_K01)
