Prerequisites (description):

The student should be proficient in reading sheet music and familiar with basic methods of analyzing musical form and harmony.

Short description:

The seminar is dedicated to the works of Fryderyk Chopin. During the classes, we will explore the most important musical genres characteristic of his compositions and analyze pieces representing these genres.

Full description:

The classes will introduce the key musical genres characteristic of Fryderyk Chopin's works. The study of the composer’s oeuvre will be complemented by group readings and discussions on contemporary interpretations of his selected compositions. Students will be tasked with mastering fundamental information about Chopin's life and works, as well as completing an individual project in any artistic medium that engages in dialogue with Chopin's music.

Learning outcomes:

The student is familiar with the key facts of Fryderyk Chopin's biography, the musical genres characteristic of his works, and contemporary interpretations of selected compositions.

The student actively participates in discussions about interpretations of Chopin’s selected works and can recognize them by ear.

The student engages in a creative dialogue with Fryderyk Chopin’s musical heritage.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Knowledge Test (50%): evaluates the student’s understanding of Fryderyk Chopin’s biography, characteristic musical genres, and contemporary interpretations of his works.

Individual Project (50%): a creative task where the student develops an individual project using any artistic medium to engage in a dialogue with Chopin's musical legacy.
