Brief description

The course starts with introduction to the basic rules of statistical inference and most typical errors in inference. Next part covers the particular methods of forecasting, covering both their strong sides and limitations. There is also space for a critical analysis of existing, professional international forecasts. Almost from the beginning of the course students start working in small groups on their own forecasts, the effect shows learning outcomes and is the most important part of final grade.

The essence of threats to international security. Concepts of balance of power and balance of fear; theories of the hegemonic cycle. The paradigm of international security after the Cold War, shaping the international order and balance of power. Polarization of the security environment. Critical security studies - securitization. Legal and institutional framework for ensuring international security. UN and regional security institutions - characteristics. Rules for the use of force in international relations. Military security - military expenditure, arms production and trade, nuclear potential. Trends in armed conflicts after the Cold War. Energy security - the nature of threats. Ecological security. Food, water, health security. The concept of human security and responsibility for protection.

The purpose of this seminar is to deliver students with knowledge about the international financial market. The main participants of the international financial market will be presented. The money market, the capital market and the currency market will be discussed. Different securities will be analyzed: shares, bonds, derivative contracts. Great Depression and financial crisis of 2008 will be discussed.

Wykład wprowadzający do studiowania dyscypliny stosunki międzynarodowe. Najpierw zostaną przedstawione zagadnienia związane z genezą i przedmiotem dyscypliny SM, a w następnej kolejności wykładu będę się odnosił do regionalizmu globalizmu i regionalizmu dwóch najważniejszych tendencji rozwojowych w stosunkach międzynarodowych, które są przedmiotem badania w postaci studiów globalnych, studiów regionalnych. To dwa poziomy analizy (badania) stosunków międzynarodowych, w których wykorzystuje się teorie stosunków międzynarodowych.
