The primary mission of this course is to provide an understanding of the commercial bank management. We will talk on

daily problems and issues that management have to deal with and the tools needed to effectively struggle with them.

The course begins with the illustration how critical commercial banking are to the functioning of the economy and how

those it reflects our standard of living with special attention on specificity of banking industry.

Next, the services banks offer, how banks are organized and structured will be presented with special attention to the

principal laws and regulations governing the industry. Also, how to analyze banks’ financial statements and evaluate bank

performance. Students will be introduced to the topic of asset-liability management and with bank’s exposure to different

risks The liquidity problems banks must deal with as they manage their cash position will be presented.

The objective of this course is to teach students econometric methods, their theoretical properties and most important applications. Lectures will be illustrated with simple empirical examples. Course covers the estimation of parameters in Classical Linear Regression Model with Ordinary Least Squares and some extensions like Generalized Least Squares and robust estimation of variance matrix. In this context the most important element of statistical inference discussed: estimation, parameter interpretation, test the statistical hypotesis, and diagnostics of the estimated model. Upon learning the course material student should be able to make inferences about relations between variables in cross section sample. Problem sessions are to teach students how to formulate an econometric model, how to estimate it with STATA package and how to inteprete the results.

Celem zajęć jest przedstawienie ogólnego zarysu ekonomii ubezpieczeń oraz przybliżenie praktycznej umiejętności analizy sprawozdań finansowych firmy ubezpieczeniowej. Punktem wyjścia jest ustalenie istoty ryzyka ubezpieczeniowego, istoty usługi ubezpieczeniowej, a następnie użyteczności kontraktu ubezpieczeniowego dla ubezpieczonego oraz ubezpieczyciela. Kolejnym zagadnieniem jest organizacja i funkcjonowanie rynku ubezpieczeniowego w Polsce i na świecie. Kilka wykładów poświęconych zostanie głównym elementom ekonomiki towarzystwa ubezpieczeniowego: zasadom kalkulacji składki ubezpieczeniowej, rezerwom techniczno-ubezpieczeniowym oraz reasekuracji. Blok ten zamyka omówienie zasad rachunkowości ubezpieczeniowej oraz instrumentów regulacji rynku ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wdrożonej w 2016 roku reformy Solvency II. Ostatnia część kursu dokonuje przeglądu sprawozdań finansowych ubezpieczyciela i uczy ich interpretacji

This course constitutes the first part of the undergraduate sequence in international economics (followed by the Open Economy Macroeconomics given in the spring semester). The main objective of the course is to provide students a non-technical introduction into the theory and policy of international trade and investment. The course consists of two parts. The first part explains reasons and gains from trade using classical and neoclassical trade theories based on absolute and comparative advantage as well as more recent theories based on increasing returns, product differentiation and demand similarity. The second part investigates effectiveness of various trade policy instruments under perfect and imperfect competition, explains the political economy of trade policy and the role of preferential trading arrangements and international trade organizations in shaping the contemporary patterns of international trade and investment.

The aim of the course is to present problems related with assignment, realization and interpretation of public sector activity at central and local levels. The course will provide the knowledge of the structure and interrelationships in public finance, methods of studying public sector spending and sources of financing (taxes, charges, debt instruments, transfers).

The course is intended mainly for students from two programs: Public Sector Economics (first year of the master program) and European Finance and Banking (second year of the program). The course is planned as lecture and ends with an exam.
