The course aims to familiarize participants with the creation, modification and management of databases using SQL language, which is the standard used in databases such as Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, Access, etc. Students will become acquainted with the theoretical and the practical issues of database creation, maintenance and management. Special attention will be paid to the SQL queries in databases such as MS SQL Server.

The course gives both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to model a credit scorecard. During the course all necessary steps to develop a scorecard would be discussed and presented. Starting from data preparation (handling a missing data and outliers, derived variables preparation, data sampling), going through model estimation (i.e. logistic regression) and model quality assessment (discriminatory power, stability) and ending on optimal cut-off choice.

During the course examples would be presented in R.

This is an English version of a course taught in the Economics Department. Its aim is to introduce main issues of environmental economics and policy. Particular emphasis is placed on discussing the role of markets, as well as questions of economic efficiency in using the natural environment and its resources. The course is devoted to explaining the patterns of international location of economic activity. Topics discussed include the formation of industrial and service clusters, regional versus national specialization in production, the role of metropolitan areas as the engines of innovation, economic growth and regional development, declining and emerging regions, economic activity of population, regional unemployment and regional wage determination, international labour and human capital mobility, the role of foreign direct investment in shaping the world patterns of specialization. The seminar is designed mainly for Master of Arts in International Economics Program, however, exchange students visiting the Department of Economics at Warsaw University are also welcome to participate. Polish students with good working knowledge of English from other specialization fields can enroll subject to instructor's approval. The assesment is based on the presentation and the final paper.

Podstawowym celem rachunkowości zarządczej jest organizacja działalności przedsiębiorstwa i jej kontroli. Rozpoczniemy semestr od zapoznania się z naturą kosztów w organizacji i wspomaganiem przez rachunkowość procesu decyzji krótkoterminowych i długoterminowych. Następnie będziemy badać jak misja i struktura organizacji wpływa na wyniki finansowe i podejmowanie decyzji przez zarządzających. Następnie analizować będziemy efekty tych decyzji na rezultaty osiągane przez firmę jak i zakres informacji z rachunkowości jak i jej zawartość. Wiedza pozwala na zrozumienie związków pomiędzy celami organizacji a jej strukturą i rolą rachunkowości w koordynacji, kontroli i zarządzaniu organizacją. Kurs pozwala na zdobycie profesjonalnych jak i komunikacyjnych umiejętności poprzez analizę problemów jak i ćwiczeń, które pozwalają na zidentyfikowanie i zdefiniowanie problemu oraz rozróżnienie istotnych i nieistotnych informacji.

This course studies quantitative approaches for solving dynamic economic models.

There is a heavy theoretical component: this course provides basic background in dynamic programming techniques (Bellman equation) frequently used in modern economics. We will also study economic theory related to consumption and savings decisions. There is also a heavy computational component: we will study numerical methods (value function iteration, endogenous grid, policy function iteration and similar) and learn to apply them in deterministic and stochastic settings.

We will use Julia, a modern, open source, high productivity language primarily used in technical and scientific computing. No prior knowledge of Julia is needed.

The main course objective is a presentation of most common social research methods, both of qualitative and quantitative nature. The most important expected result of instruction is getting basic skills of planning and conducting own empirical research as well as getting knowledge useful for critical assessment of other authors' researches. Those skills can be useful not only while conducting own scientific research (e.g. as a part of master thesis) but also in business practice, both in private and public sector (market research, tools for strategic management in organization, preparation and evaluation of public policies). The course covers a review of different research approaches and their applications, issues connected with preparing questionnaires, survey data analysis and a discussion of the possibility to combine quantitative and qualitative methods. The course is conducted as e-learning.

1. Contemporary enterprises need holistic approach to the strategy implementation and the managers must use the qualitative and quantitative information to achieve goals of the organization. Accounting information must be relevant and enable the company to achieve strategic advantages. 2. This course provide knowledge about applying accounting to strategy and the advanced methods of strategic accounting are illustrated by numerous case studies. 3. Tools of strategic accounting. 4. The course is intended for M.A. students.

1. The main objective of this course is to clarify and to specify the idea of sustainability and then to define how to measure sustainable development. 2. The course starts from ecological foundation and then goes through renewable and non-renewable resources management, economic valuation, and the policy guidelines for sustainable development. The core element of the course is comprehensive presentation of diverse sustainability indicators: aggregated, cross-cutting, and for local communities. In particular, aggregated, macroeconomic and single-number indicators are discussed to monitor progress of sustainable development. Additionally, country specific and EU sets of structural indicators and indicators for local communities are also presented and discussed. 3. An interactive lecture with additional students' presentations. 4. This course is for students of Development Economics and visiting Erasmus students. 5. Evaluation is based on participation and oral presentations.
